This is just a simple question and not formal enough to require a poll format.
I'm just wondering... How many are switching to Vista, right from the intro, at the end of this month?
I know that I'll be switching at some point but there's no advantage in being "first".
Long story short... how long are you going to wait to switch to Vista?
Orrr... are you just going to stick with what you have?

Hi Lorne,

The operating system that we have now is our personal preference and we can use any one that suits our needs. There are many people who are still using Windows 98. I'm thinking that most people will not change or upgrade unless they see a tremendous incentive to do so.

Most new computers are coming out with it and I would think there will be a learning curve for everyone who gets it. Like you said, there is no race to be first. I'm sure there will be bugs to work out.

Sometimes, I think about going back to Win 2000.

Since I first raised the issue the consensus seems to be something like this... "You'd be foolish to buy Vista separately. Wait until you buy a new computer and it'll already be installed for you and ready to go. Not only that but when you buy your new system have the techs transfer your data from your old machine for a few extra bucks... well worth it!"
Of course, that quote is made-up; but that's an honest reflection of what I've been reading and hearing.
Maybe it's just me but the overall attitude seems to be diametrically opposite from when XP launched. Of course, XP came with my machine too and I don't have any direct knowledge of this, but it seemed to me that many people were eager to buy and install XP right out of the box.
Anyway... I'll wait.
On another front... the "shivering" issue that my monitor went through a while back has ceased. It seemed to be caused by opening the credit links windows (several at once collecting on taskbar) while waiting for the credits to time-in.
But the really incredible thing about this is that this computer seems to be self-correcting! I kid you not. Over time the shivering got less and less until it just went away entirely.
I also think that your assessment was correct, Leon. Something to do with screen display and how that whole process works.
The brain of the computer seemed to be confused at first but eventually diagnosed and fixed the problem on its own.
I think that we sometimes forget just how sophisticated these machines can be... then something like this happens and you're simply left in awe of what they can do.
Anyhoo... that's my "big post" for the day!
