How to do effective Offline AdvertisingHi all!
I wanted to give you some tips for off-line advertising which is often much more effective than on-line. Here are a few ideas – some of which have been posted elsewhere, but I'm re-posting them here so you have everything in one place along with an explanation of how to best use these resources.
The first item is Drop Cards:
These are little “curiosity cards” with minimal information – just enough to pique the curiosity of the people who receive them so that they look at your site. Here are some examples:
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/dropcards/coffeehabitdropcards.pdf
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/dropcards/lotterydropcards.pdf
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/dropcards/makealivingdropcards.pdf
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/dropcards/mathlessondropcards.pdf
You simply print these out on blank business card sheets that you can get at any stationer's or WalMart (I prefer the glossy ones). On the back, you can print a “selling phrase” (like Debra's “It's simple...buy the book) and your URL. The URL on these cards has to be easy to type in, so the typical “short URL's” like “www.shorturl.com/73o9uw” isn't a great idea. If you need a snappy, professional, free URL get one at http://www.opportunity.com/r/SuccessfulLady . I have one from there that reads: http://WeCanDoThis.Opportunity.com and it re-directs to the Plan4power site of a downline member that I'm helping.
So now that you have your cards, what do you do with them? You leave them everywhere you go, like this:
Were you at a restaurant? Leave one on the table
Did you use a public washroom? Leave one in the stall and by the sink
Did you pass a public phone booth? Leave one there
Did you pass a lottery booth? Leave one there
Did you rent a DVD or Video? Put one in the box when you return it
Did you take out a library book? Leave one inside
Did you buy gas? Leave one at the pump
Were you in a clothing store? Put one in the pocket of one or two items – you can also put one in purses/bags/wallets for sale. Just don't overdo this! One or two per store is PLENTY.
Did you see a public bulletin board? Leave two or three cards on it
Did you pass a vending machine? Leave one there
Did you see a newspaper dispenser? Leave one there.
Did you use public transport? Leave one on the seat and at the bus stop
You can also "blitz" an area, and tape a couple to lamp-posts and super mail boxes (don't do this often, though. It can irrate people quickly. Use good judgement)
There are dozens of ways to use these, limited only by your imagination.
These are also great in conversations. Whenever you meet a stranger in a business, ask them if the job they're doing is their dream job. If they say no, ask them about what they'd like to do, and then ask them why they're not doing it. Then look for an opening to offer them your card. Don't give them much information, let them look it up and let the site (and Bruce!) do the selling.
If you have ideas for other cards, simply download the Avery Wizard from http://www.avery.co.uk/uk1/downloads/wizzard.jsp . It has templates for everything Avery makes, and it works with Microsoft Office and you can design your own cards. Very easy to use.
You might find that there are some places where you can pin up notices (check to make sure that you can leave opportunity notices, as this is often restricted). Great places for these are local community centres and local colleges and universities. Keep your eyes open for others, as well.
Here you would want to leave a poster, such as the following:
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/posters/DownlineDysfunctionPoster.pdf
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/posters/PlanPoster.pdf
www.successfulhomebusinessformoms.com/plan4power/posters/PlanPosterPocket.pdf
Here's how you use them:
Print off the poster(s) you want and then on the BACK and UPSIDE DOWN print your selling phrase and your URL (see the “Poster Pocket” sheet) It should print so that you fold up the bottom of the poster to make a pocket, and the URL is right-side up on the front of the pocket. You then put a small stack of your drop cards in your pocket, and hang the poster. If the cards run out before you get back to fill them (keep a list of where these are and make sure you visit regularly!) they can still get your URL and look you up.
These are just a few inexpensive ideas to get you started! I hope they work successfully for you!

Great post Darlene!
You have made some very helpful information available here and this is very true!
I recommend that everyone who wants to join with http://www.opportunity.com/r/SuccessfulLady use the full benefits.
However, I am not posting this to take away from your recommendations to join Opportunity.com, but there are other redirection services that are available for the members as well that are free to use. One of them is very good and I use it for a number of sites I am using.
http://www.active.ws/domains
I do not receive any benefit from referring people to Active.ws so I do not have any ulterior motive in posting their URL. It is only fair that everyone has an opportunity to see that we are trying to help here.
Peace,

Thanks, Leon!I'm all for lots of great ideas, Leon. Thanks for sharing. Most of the short url programs I've seen are great for protecting your affiliate URL online, but are still awkward to type in. If this other site has simple re-directs, by all means, go for it!
I get no financial benefit from Opportunity - it becomes a kind of opt-in safelist where I can e-mail a random number of people according to the number of sign-ups I have under me. It's just another benefit of the program for anyone who does safelist advertising.
If anyone else has great ideas for this, by all means, post them here for all of us to benefit!

Hi Darlene,
I understand Opportunity.com very well. I am a member myself.
Like I said, I didn't mean to deter anyone from joining there. Please forgive me.

No problem, Leon!Leon, I wasn't at all offended or upset by your reply. I'm wide open to sharing anything that works. If it can help me at the same time, great; if someone finds something that works better for them elsewhere, that is great too. I mean that really and truly. Let's give people as many options as possible to make this business work!
